LESSON
IV
The Unihipili
The Unihipili
is the Hawaiian name for the subconscious mind, the emotional
mind, or the inner child. It is often referred to as the Little
Sister or Little Brother Self. We call it the Basic Self. The
Unihipili is one of your three selves and resides with the Uhane
in the body. It is a wondrous and very gifted part of each human
being. Although the emotional age of the Basic Self is between
3-6 years of age, with 6 being a highly evolved person, most of
us are still at the 3 year old stage.
The Basic
Self is intertwined in the kino (the body) with the Uhane or conscious
self. It is the caretaker of the body and never sleeps. It is
our librarian and remembers in holographic form, including smells
and feelings, everything that happens to us from before we are
born. It stores these memories with other similar memories. The
ka HUNA used the symbol of a cluster of berries to illustrate how
these memories are stored together. A good example of this is
when we try to remember a certain thing we find it connected to
several other things. Memories are not stored in the brain. They
are stored in every cell in your body.
The Basic
Self is your extra-sensory self. It has the ability to reach out
and gather information on a different level from your five senses.
Some people call this intuition. It's the ability to know something
without knowing how you know it. You simply know it. Everyone
has this ability because everyone has a Basic Self. Growing up
in our Western society, we are taught to disregard the information
coming to the conscious mind from the subconscious mind.
HUNA
students realize the importance of this information and make a
concentrated effort to learn how to listen to the Basic Self when
it is communicating this important information to us.
We need
the information that the Basic Self collects to make good decisions
for our life. An example of this is when we continue to pursue
a direction with a gut feeling that it is wrong and finding out
that indeed it is wrong for us. This happens quite often in relationships
with other people. We really want to go out with this person because
he or she is popular or handsome/beautiful, only to find out that
we have nothing in common and are uncomfortable being around them,
something our Basic Self was trying to tell us all along.
Our Basic
Self is an important part of who we are and should be thanked
for its good work, loved and praised often. The Basic Self is
our Best Friend. No one is closer to us than our delightful Basic
Self. It is important to remember that our Basic Self is the part
of us that feels. Whenever you are feeling anything, you are coming
from the perspective of your Basic Self. It is important not to
judge the feelings, but to acknowledge them. The trick is not
to let them run away with the body. Feel the emotions, acknowledge
them, but wait until you can discuss them internally before you
take action. Remember the Basic Self is only 3 years old and needs
guidance and love.
The most
important aspect of learning to communicate with your Basic Self
is that only the Basic Self has the direct connection to the Aumakua
(Your Higher Self). You can't get to the Divine Force through
your mind, only through your heart. If you and your Basic Self
are at odds with one another, your Basic Self will not send your
prayers and therefore your prayers will not be answered and you
will not receive the important Divine guidance you need.
It is
a great adventure to learn about your Basic Self and see the miracles
that happen in your life when your Three Selves are in alignment
and working together.
