HUNA is a practical system of psychology, philosophy
and spirituality based on the work of Max Freedom Long, who
researched and recovered much of the lost knowledge of the Kahuna.
Long chose the word "HUNA" for this system. "HUNA" means "secret"
in the Hawaiian language and refers to the inner and secret teachings
of the ancient Kahuna, the priests of Hawaii. Kahuna means
"keeper or transmitter of the secret."
The Kahuna were were well-known for their
healing practices and their ability to solve financial and social
difficulties. They could also change the future. The
Kahuna had an extensive knowledge of human psychology and how the
various parts of the human personality function. For instance,
they knew about the subconscious mind long before Dr. Freud made
his theories known. And they knew about the superconscious
mind, the spiritual part of the human personality, our connection
with the Divine.
They also knew the power of forgiveness in the healing
process. In fact, forgiveness is the first step on the road
to healing in HUNA. The Kahuna could heal broken bones instantly,
bring the drowned back to life, call the turtles and the sharks,
influence weather, and perform all kinds of other "miraculous" deeds.
They also understood and used energy, which they called "mana."
The principles of HUNA are based in
the concept that the human psyche is composed of three parts or
selves or minds and the communication between them. You communicate
with your three selves all the time. In learning HUNA you
learn how to communicate better.
Today, HUNA is not a secret system.
We have the opportunity to apply and use the ancient teachings to
heal our own lives and achieve balance and harmony. HUNA is
an ancient spiritual knowledge made manifest in modern times to
bring us back into harmony with mind, heart, body, spirit and the
Universe.
